Read guide βHow a sports bet works
A bookmaker publishes a market, defines the possible outcomes, attaches odds to those outcomes and accepts a stake. If your selection wins under the bookmaker's published settlement rules, the return is calculated from the accepted odds and stake. If the selection loses, the stake is lost.
What odds do β and do not β mean
Odds determine the potential return and imply a probability. They are not a prediction that an outcome βwillβ happen. Bookmaker prices also include margin, so the implied probabilities across all outcomes of a market often add to more than 100%.
Start with singles
A single bet has one selection and is the easiest structure to understand. Multiples such as accumulators combine selections and can produce a larger headline return, but every required leg has to satisfy the bet conditions. That increases the chance the full bet loses.
Operator rules and market terms vary. Always read the bookmaker's current event and settlement rules before betting.
