Glossary
Curaçao License
A gambling license issued by the Curaçao Gaming Authority — historically one of the most common licenses for internationally-facing operators, with lighter player-protection requirements than tier-one regulators like the UKGC or MGA.
Why it matters
Not all licenses offer the same level of player protection or dispute resolution. Knowing the difference between a Curaçao license and a tier-one license like the UKGC or MGA helps set expectations about recourse if something goes wrong.
Examples
- A Curaçao-licensed operator may have fewer mandated responsible-gambling tools than a UKGC-licensed one.
- Since 2023, Curaçao has been reforming its licensing framework toward individual master licenses rather than the older sub-license model.
